GM/ER INSPECTED SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE PILGRIMS OF GANGASAGAR MELA AT SEALDAH STATION

Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway made a surprise visit to Sealdah station this afternoon to inspect the special arrangements by the Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway for the pilgrims of Gangasagar Mela-2016.
Shri Gupta inspected various facilities arranged for this purpose viz. functioning of ‘May I Help You’ counters, Booking counters, Announcements for the guidance of Gangasagar pilgrims etc. He also reviewed the punctuality of the additional EMU locals introduced during the Mela period. He advised the Divisional officials to make arrangements for proper guidance to the pilgrims for boarding trains as well as to further strengthen special steps for crowd management/security arrangements.

It is mentioned that for the convenience of pilgrims, Eastern Railway has opened sufficient number of counters at Sealdah, Kakdwip, Namkhana stations round the clock. Moreover, volunteers of civil defence, scouts & guides of Eastern Railway and St. John Ambulance brigade have been deployed at those stations in addition to RPF & GRP.
Special medical units are functioning at Kakdwip and Namkhana stations. Emergency lighting arrangements are made at different stations on the Sealdah South section, especially Sealdah, Baruipur, Kakdwip and Namkhana. RPF personnel at Diamond Harbour, Lakshmikantapur, Namkhana and Kakdwip stations are supervising the law & order and social harmony in close coordination with the GRP.
Shri Gupta expressed his happiness that Sealdah Division has made a lot of improvement in cleanliness drive and also urged upon the cooperation of the passengers in making the cleanliness drive successful.
To cope with the anticipated rush of pilgrims/passengers during Gangasagar Mela, Eastern Railway is plying 7 galloping EMU Mela special trains on the Sealdah-Lakshmikantapur-Namkhana section and 3 EMU local trains on the same section have been extended for the mela purpose.
