‘International Union of Railways’ has decided to observe 11th June, 2020 as International Level Crossing Awareness Day”. As part of it, Indian Railways is also participating in the global campaign to sensitize road users to increase safety at unmanned level crossings. The International Level Crossing Awareness Day focuses on educational measures and the promotion of safe behavior at and around level crossings.
Indian Railways in general and South Central Railway in particular has been giving continuous importance towards creating awareness among the users along the level crossing gates. Further, continuous importance is given to rationalize the level crossing gates over the network so as to enhance safety. As part of it. South Central Railway was among the first zones to eliminate all the Un-Manned Level Crossing (UMLCs) gates across its entire network by October 2018. In addition, focus is being given towards the elimination of the manned level crossing gates on a mission-mode as well.
At present, there are a total 1411 manned level crossings over South Central Railway. During the Financial year 2019-20, a total of 127 Manned level crossings have been removed by construction of LHS/ROB/RUBs.
