Doubling and Electrification of Railway Lines

Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:-

(a) the details of the doubling of Railway lines being done by the Indian Railways at present, place-wise;

(b) whether any scheme is proposed for the doubling and electrification of the Railway route between Lalitpur- Tikamgarh-Chhatarpur-Khajuraho at present or in future; and

(c) the details thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2269 BY DR. VIRENDRA KUMAR TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 04.03.2020 REGARDING DOUBLING AND ELECTRIFICATION OF RAILWAY LINES

(a): Presently, Indian Railways have taken up 255 Doubling Projects of 20,500 km length and costing Rs.2.32 lakh crore, which are in different stages of execution/planning/sanction, out of which, commissioning of 2,784 km length has been achieved and expenditure of Rs.48,342 crore has been incurred up to March, 2019.

The details of all projects (including Doubling Projects) are made available in public domain on Indian Railways website i.e. www.indianrailways.gov.in >Ministry of Railways >Railway Board >About Indian Railways >Railway Board Directorates >Finance (Budget).

(b) and (c): Lalitpur- Tikamgarh-Chhatarpur-Khajuraho section is a part of Lalitpur – Satna and Rewa- Singrauli New Line Project. Presently, single new broad gauge line work has been taken up and there is no proposal for doubling.

Railway Electrification work on Lalitpur-Udaipura section has already been completed in 2017-18. Electrification of Udaipura-Tikamgarh-Chhatarpur-Khajuraho is part of sanctioned electrification work of Mahoba-Udaipura. Tender has been awarded for the same in December’2019.
