Revision in the Rule 211 of IRCA Coaching Tariff No. 26 Part I (Vol. I): Fare for children.

In partial modification of provisions contained in Rule 211 of IRCA Coaching Tariff No. 26 Part I (Yol. I), Ministry of Railways have decided that in case of children of age 5 years and under 12 years of age for whom full berth/seat ( in Reserved class) is sought at the time of reservation, full adult fare for such child shall be charged. However, if berth/seat is not sought for the children of age 5 years and under 12 years of age at the time of reservation, then half of adult fare shall continue to be charged subject to minimum distance for charge.

2. There shall be no change with regard to child fare for unreserved class.

3. The revised child fare rule shall be applicable with effect from 10.04.2016. CRIS may carry out necessary changes in the software and testing well before 10.12.2016.

4. Necessary changes shall be carried in the reservation form so that the passenger can mark their option for requirement of full berth/seat for child or not.

5. Special arrangements shall be made to ensure that necessary instructions should reach the staff well in time. Steps should also be taken to ensure that the staff fully understand these changes and Implement them properly.

Revised Child Fare Rule becomes applicable for train journey from 21st April, 2016 onwards.

Advance booking of reserved tickets under this revised child fare rule has already started in December 2015 for journey date 21st April, 2016 onwards.

Ministry of Railways has decided to revise the child fare rule. Under the revised provision, full adult fare will be charged for children of age 5 years and under 12 years of age if for whom full separate berth/seat (in reserved class) is sought at the time of reservation. However, in case full separate berth/seat is not sought for the children of age 5 years and under 12 years of age at the time of reservation, then half of the adult fare shall continue to be charged subject to the minimum distance for charging.

This revised child fare rule has been made applicable for travel from 21st April, 2016 onwards. Advance booking of reserved tickets for children under this revised rule has already started in December 2015 for journey date of 21st April, 2016 onwards.

While filling up reservation form, the passenger can indicate their option for requirement of full berth/seat for child or not.

There is no change in the rule for child fare of unreserved tickets i.e. fare for children of 5-12 years for unreserved tickets shall continue to be half of the adult fare subject to the minimum distance for charging.

Children under five years of age will continue to be carried free (without berth) in case of both reserved and unreserved classes.

It is notified for the information of general public that Railways have decided , that in case , no berth is opted for the children of age of 5 years and under 12 years of age at the time of reservation , minimum distance for charge shall not be applicable. In such cases, o­nly half of the applicable adult fare shall be charged. In other cases, minimum distance for charge provision shall continue as earlier. The Indian Railways has already implemented this decision since May 01 , 2017.

As per the revised rules, full adult fare will be charged for children between 5 and 12 years of age if a berth/seat is sought for them in the reserved class.

Railways has decided to charge the full ticket fare for children between the ages of five and 12 from April next year, effectively bringing in a fare hike for children well before Rail Budget 2016.
