Cancellation of Passenger Train Services Extended up to 17th May 2020

In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19, it has been decided that the cancellation of all passenger train services on Indian Railways, that is, all Mail/Express (including premium trains); passenger trains; suburban trains and trains of Metro Railway, Kolkata shall be extended till 17th May 2020.

However, movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places shall be carried out by special trains, as required by the state governments, in terms of the guidelines issued under Ministry of Home Affairs Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-I (A) dated 1st May 2020.

Freight and Parcel operations shall continue, as at present.

Extended cancellation of Passenger Train services and an appeal to General Public

In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19, it has been decided that the cancellation of all passenger carrying train services on Southern Railways ,i.e., mail/express trains, Premium trains, Suburban trains, shall be extended till 17th May, 2020.

However, as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs special trains will be run for movement of migrant workers, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places. These special trains, “Shramik Specials”, will be run from point to point solely on the request of both the concerned state governments as per the standard protocols for sending and receiving such stranded persons.

Wherever such special trains are being run only the passengers brought and authorized by the concerned State government shall be allowed to enter the station and board the train. Before bringing them to the station screening will be arranged by the state government and only those found asymptomatic would be allowed to travel. Railways will endeavor to ensure social distancing norms and hygiene with the cooperation of the passengers.

Any person wanting to travel shall have to contact the concerned state government only.

Freight trains and parcel trains will be continued to run to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities.

It is appealed to the public as to not to visit any railway station for any purpose as they will remain non-functional and all the booking offices and reservation office for issuance of reserved/unreserved tickets will remain closed.
